Key Technologies For Coating Lines

Jul 01, 2026 Leave a message

Driven by Industry 4.0 and "dual-carbon" goals, key technologies for modern coating lines are evolving rapidly toward automation, intelligence, and sustainability. These technologies aim to boost production efficiency, ensure coating quality, reduce overall costs, and meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations.
Automated Spraying Technology
Robotic spraying systems represent the core of automation technology. In sectors such as automotive coating, these systems integrate hardware and software to execute spraying based on control data, achieving precise, efficient, and consistent automation. Intelligent spraying robots utilize multi-axis coordination and path-planning algorithms to handle complex workpiece geometries and enhance operational efficiency. For instance, 3D vision-guided spraying technology can increase coating utilization to over 92% and improve spraying path optimization efficiency by 40%.
Intelligent and Digital Technologies
Intelligent technology is becoming the primary driver of coating line advancement. AI-based vision systems enable real-time detection and automatic repair of paint surface defects, achieving micron-level detection accuracy and defect recognition rates exceeding 99%. Digital twin technology allows for the simulation of coating process parameters in a virtual environment, optimizing production workflows and reducing trial-and-error costs. Virtual commissioning via digital twins can shorten the time-to-market for new processes by 40% and facilitate predictive equipment maintenance. Intelligent integration, managed through Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), enables end-to-end monitoring and scheduling, creating a new paradigm for "smart coating factories."
Green, Eco-friendly, and Energy-saving Technologies
Environmental compliance is a fundamental requirement for coating line design. Regarding materials, low-VOC, water-based, and powder coating technologies are rapidly replacing traditional solvent-based products, with the adoption of UV curing and similar technologies rising significantly. In terms of process and energy management, key energy-saving measures include using recirculated air in spray booths, flash-off and drying ovens, and heat recovery systems for exhaust gas treatment (such as RTO or TNV units); these significantly lower the energy consumed for fresh air conditioning and exhaust treatment. Furthermore, recovering waste heat from drying ovens for pre-treatment heating, optimizing production line layouts to reduce pipeline energy loss, and implementing thermal energy recovery designs can cut the total line's energy consumption by an additional 15% to 35%.
